Characters Of Cyberdawn

Like any of my books, Cyberdawn has quite the list of characters, but it all starts out with a few key people.  Those unlucky enough to be lured into the darker shadows of the world and be witness to that which cannot possibly exist.  These are the ones that must sound the call before the shadows swell to swallow the world…

  • Robert “Black Jack” Hannigan: Your average “no-nonsense” cop looks up to this guy whenever they’re feeling a little squeamish.  “Real guns” may be banned even for the cops to use, but that doesn’t stop Black Jack from carrying his own custom jobs, nor from roughing up the criminals a bit.  An attitude that comes in handy when he finds out what’s really out there… and when he gets set up for every despicable act being performed by this Conspiracy.  The Media, his fellow cops, corporate heads, they’re all in on it.  Who to trust?
  • Agent Black:  The definition of the unflappable government agent, complete with the dark sunglasses and black suit.  A man with a suspicious nature that doesn’t buy into the standard line; not when certain things don’t add up, like house wives being set up as mass murderers just for performing a peaceful little protest, or people vanishing under highly suspect circumstances.  Pity his own superiors seem to be in on whatever conspiracy is going on.
  • Dr. Rebecca Winter:  She could have been a supermodel, but chose to get a PhD by age 17.  She is beyond brilliant and is determined to see her projects.  Now at 19, with the backing of Dr. Falvy, Winter Research is the cutting edge of futuristic weapons technology in an age where everyone is ready to disband their armies.  To make up for her youth, she is as stern and cold as they come, earning the nickname of “Ice Bitch” by all under her employ; a nickname that she quite enjoys.  Fail to live up to her high standards, and you’ll earn a tongue lashing that will make some Marines cringe and cower… except for Black Jack, of course; he yells back.
  • Dr. William Falvy:  A retired medical doctor who putters around in his estate’s lab, he became Rebecca’s surrogate father when her own parents didn’t know what to do with her, and has mentored her from quite a young age.  It is in his lab that the first of some alien creatures will be examined, proving that some fantastical myths may indeed be too true.
  • Anya Petrova:  Russian corporate assassin– that may be ever so slightly psychic– working for Sony Corp, aka “Japan Inc.”, she has never betrayed her employers.  But then she made the mistake of listening to what her latest victim had to say before killing him.  For that mere fact it seems as the lower rank and file of corporate security now want her dead.  Framed now to cover up whatever is going on, she needs to find proof enough to show Tetsui Myoko, the supreme head of Sony Corp.  Unfortunately, that proof has long claws, mystical powers, and fights back.
  • Arch Bishop Joseph O’Malley:  In a faithless world where Christian religions have fallen out of favor, a humble little Arch Bishop with a tower full of ancient mystical tomes is the one priest left that truly believes.  And in faith, as it turns out, there is actual physical power.  A fact that both the Arch Bishop and the creatures creeping around the shadows will find out together.
  • Hyram Yaeger:  He’s just a simple pawn shop owner; never mind the fact of the back room where he machines custom guns for the small percent of the population that still believes in being able to defend themselves.  As far as what his friend Black Jack tells him about demon cats, elves, and ghouls, he’ll need to see it himself…  Be careful what you wish for.
  • Devon “Genner” Shane:  A shy, if brilliant, 17 year old kid whose computer skills turn out to be the missing link that the rest needs.  Of course when he sees the cold-hearted beauty that is Rebecca Winter he does what any shy teenager would do: he stutters and clams up.  But why, then, does it seem that, despite all the horror that the group is about to experience, he is the only one that can get away with calling “The Ice Bitch” by her first name and not get a swift tongue lashing?
