Maldene contains many an unusual site, places unlike anywhere else.  Amongst them is a location best described by two particular tarot cards.

The Alchemist from the Greater Arcana is a card of transformation, while The Wizard indicates, quite obviously, mystical forces.   The one place that best exemplifies transformative magic, is The Crystalline City of the Gem Mages.

The City is said to be located in what was once the most active volcano on the planet and is now one big mountain of crystals.  The perfect location for Gem Mages, who use crystalline forms in their magic, though ‘magic’ doesn’t quite describe what they do.  Skilled  at tapping into the energy bound up within the atomic bonds of gems, they can shape that energy– and the crystals themselves– into any form they desire.

This makes them quite valuable, more so considering they are somewhat rare as far as wizards go, and such tapping will reduce the value of a gem until it is charcoal, if one doesn’t know how to recharge them.  A rather expensive hobby indeed.

The city itself is politically neutral and, needless to say, even if you can find the place, assaulting it is never a good idea.
