How I Would Have Handled GOT

Now that Game of Thrones is over with, and that ending just sort of lay there and withered, I thought I’d throw in my answer to that ending, or at least parts of it. Here then is what I would have done if I was in charge (and given what I would have had to work with).

The big miss was having all that build up for Jon Snow’s real identity then… nothing. It’s like everyone suddenly forgot about it. Instead, one way they should have handled it could have been this. When they’re deciding what to do with him after he killed Dani, someone should have just spilled the beans and said “Hey, he’s the real heir to the Iron Throne!” A bit off heated argument demanding proof and all, but then as they haul Jon up and tell him it looks like he gets to be king despite how badly Greyworm wants to kill him, we get this:

Jon: “I don’t WANT to be king; I never did!”

Others: “But we need a king!”

Jon: “Then pick someone else!”

Greyworm: “Jon must die, or at least be excited.”

Jon: “I’ll beat you to it. I just killed the Queen and woman I love; I’m exhaling myself to the North past the Wall, and furthermore I’m never going to take a wife, for I killed the woman I love and there can be no other.”

Jon then walks off to leave, and the various lords proceed with the vote as in the episode.

OR, another possibility is instead of Jon going up to kill Dani, he instead takes her on a tour of the city… including SHOWING her the charred bodies of the children and all that she’d done; real up close and personal. Maybe personal accounts from people that had been crawling around in it. A bit of drama later and Dani realizes much to her horror that she’s not only done something as bad as Cercie, but far worse. She has become the very thing that she wanted to fight against. emotional collapse, etc., then she makes a big speech in front of everyone in which she voices her regret and fears that she may become like her father, and so she abdicates her throne to exhale herself but not before revealing Jon’s true identity as the rightful heir to the Iron Throne. Lots of dismay on all sides, not the leasts of which is saying goodbye to Jon Snow.

Dani: “I must do this alone, lest I risk even harming you. Good-bye, Jon.”

One tearful good-bye later she hops on her dragon and flies away alone, never to be seen again. This leaves Jon behind with everyone looking at him as king. He still says that he does not want the job. Instead, since his true love has just exiled herself and flown away, he is heart broken and vows to never take a wife, and that he will exhale himself to the North beyond the Wall with the wildlings where he belongs. As for the Iron Throne, he tells them that they can select a new king themselves, and recommends that they destroy the Iron Throne as it’s caused just too much trouble. The vote then proceeds as in the episode as filmed, then Jon leaves forever.

I think either of the above two possibilities would have done a bit better, drawn out the secret heir plot line to some sort of conclusion with a bit of drama. Just my take, but what do you guys think?
